Celebrity Spawn: 10 Hollywood Offspring With Their Own Careers

Monday, March 01, 2010 11:38 AM
Parents reallllly put a damper on their kids’ coolness factor, unless of course their parents happen to be major Hollywood icons. Growing up as Hollywood royalty definitely has its perks, especially for the celebrity spawn trying to make it on their own. Here's a list of 10 celebrity children trying to earn Hollywood A-list status.
1
Dominik Garcia-Loredo
Daughter of Andy Garcia
It must be rewarding watching your daughter come of age: graduating from prestigious acting schools, appearing in movies, sliding around on stripper poles...  In the upcoming movie City Island, Oscar-nominated actor Andy Garcia stars alongside his daughter Dominik Garcia-Lorido, who plays a stripper.  This is the fourth movie the father-daughter team have been in together, but the first that involves body glitter and lap dances.  City Island follows a dysfunctional family from New York City trying to hide their erotic, cancerous, pornographic and adulterous secrets from one another. Check out the trailer below:
2
Bryce Dallas Howard
Daughter of Ron Howard
Bryce Dallas Howard is the daughter of the world’s #1 ginger Ron Howard, the child actor turned director and producer.  Having a big league director with 100+ years of experience in the industry definitely works in your favor.  But even better, her godfather is Fonzie, which has got to count for something.  Still, Bryce has a respectable career of her own, picking up one Golden Globe nomination and snagging a starring role away from Nicole Kidman in Manderlay.  She’ll also appear in the newest Twilight installation, replacing Rachelle Lefevre as the renegade vampire Victoria.  But she still has to live down her biggest gaffe, being a part of the worst 3 minutes ever put onto film:
3
Jaden Smith
Son of Will Smith
Rapper, actor and fresh prince Will Smith spawned little Jaden, who first impressed audiences as Will’s onscreen son in The Pursuit of Happyness.  The youngest star on this list will soon kick butt in The Karate Kid remake.  Besides the basic concept of a bullied youth learning how to kick people in the face, the remake takes the story in a new direction. That should ease the mind of Karate Kid purists who cringed at the thought of someone sullying the good names of Elizabeth Shue and Ralph Macchio. While this seemed like a project fast-tracked by Daddy, the trailer shows promise.  Jaden Smith stars as Dre-san, a boy who moves to China with his mother and encounters Jackie Chan, aka Mr. Miyagi.
4
Rumer Willis
Daughter of Bruce Willis and Demi Moore
Rumer Willis has the distinction of not one, not two, but three celebrity parents.  Born to Bruce Willis and Demi Moore, her mother later married child actor Ashton Kutcher.  With all that star power behind her, Rumer has yet to breakthrough to the big leagues. Hate to burst your bubble Rumer, but just because you have celeb parents doesn’t mean you can’t fail like the rest of us.  She’s appeared in a handful of movies like House Bunny and Sorority Row, though her IMDB page doesn’t list any upcoming movie projects.
5
Colin Hanks
Son of Tom Hanks
Tom Hanks helped his son land a role in his miniseries “Band of Brothers” and the movie That Thing You Do.  But Colin's breakout role came in 2002 when he starred in Orange County with Jack Black.  He recently appeared in The Great Buck Howard with John Malkovich and played a priest on the critically acclaimed television show Mad Men. Despite a handful of roles, he never quite broke through to A-list status.  If your career peaked at a Jack Black teen comedy, then maybe it’s time to try something new... especially if you’re half as good as Papa Hanks.

6
Ella Bleu Travolta
Daughter of John Travolta
In this promotional “music video” for the John Travolta “comedy” Old Dogs, he sings “Every Little Step” with daughter Ella Bleu.  It sounds sweet, until you see Travolta’s creepy-pedo smile and the way he chases her around set.  Chris Hansen would pop out and put an end to this revolting dance routine, but let’s face it, she’s the spawn of Danny Zuko.  Ella Bleu might not be old enough to make her own career choices, but pretty soon she’ll be old enough to be embarrassed by them.  Thanks Dad.
7
Lorraine Nicholson
Daughter of Jack Nicholson
Lorraine Nicholson isn’t Jack’s only kid, but she’s the only one who’s cashed in on the family name. In her debut movie, Soul Surfer, Lorraine will play a one-armed surfer recovering from a shark attack.  You know the saying:  When a shark rips off your arm while surfing, pick yourself up and paddle back out!  Wait, doesn’t it seem kind of impossible to surf with one arm? Not when you can call Jack Nicholson “Daddy.”
8
Gwyneth Paltrow
Daughter Bruce Paltrow and Blythe Danner
Bruce Paltrow, a television and film director, and Blythe Danner, an Emmy-award winning actress, boned and out popped Gwyneth Paltrow.  After earning positive theatre reviews, Gwyneth hit the big screen in movies like Shakespeare in Love,  Se7en and The Talented Mr. Ripley.  Now she spends her time running the website Goop, intended to “nourish the inner aspect,” whatever the hell that means.  Goop focuses on the luxury lifestyle, so if you happen to have loads of money, ten PR assistants, and way too much free time, head to the site.  It’s nice to see celebrity spawn staying so grounded.  Most people wouldn’t think of launching a luxury lifestyle website in the middle of a recession, but not Gwyneth.
9
Emma Roberts
Niece of Julia Roberts
Emma Roberts made a name for herself in 2007’s Nancy Drew with a little help from dear old Auntie Julia... Roberts. Wikipedia says she received "critical acclaim" for her role on the Nickelodeon show “Unfabulous.” Apparently critical acclaim is a fancy way of saying she got a Teen Choice Award, which is basically like winning an Oscar, except nobody cares.  But most people forget her best performance as a coke smuggler's daughter in 2001’s Blow.  Her mother wouldn't let her see the rated-R movie until she was 18, meaning she saw it for the first time last year.

10
Miley Cyrus
Daughter of Billy Ray Cyrus
Billy Cyrus was best known for his song "Achy, Breaky Heart," beloved by rednecks everywhere.  Now he's famous for being Miley Cyrus's dad.  Of all the celebrity spawn on this list, only Miley managed to completely eclipse her dad's career before age 18. Both Billy and Miley star in a Disney Channel series, where Miley plays Hannah Montana, a normal highschooler by day and famous pop star by night.  Hannah Montanna and Miley Cyrus both come from Tennessee, have a famous country singer dad, and lipsync songs onstage for a living. Maybe that means Miley Cyrus has some sort of backwoods, redneck doppleganger we don't know about...yet.  Her alter ego probably just wants to be a regular high school girl (no one wants to be a regular high school girl), but secretly lives a double life, dating Jonas Brothers and sexting photos of herself.
