Madonna's ex, baseball star Alex Rodriguez - showed up to watch
Prince Harry at the posh game in New York.
She tried to stay under the radar - and when she realized Madge was there, Kate panicked.
One onlooker said:
"Kate was completely intimidated by
Madonna. She clearly didn't want trouble and decided to keep a low profile for the rest of the match."
Both ladies attended the Veuve Clicquot's Manhattan Polo Classic on the city's Governors Island.
Bride Wars star Kate, 30, "showed up disguised in a floppy hat and huge sunglasses".

But sources say
Madonna, 50, who watched the match with boyfriend Jesus Luz, her children and fashion designer Marc Jacobs, was not bothered by Kate being there.

Madonna literally didn't care. She showed up with no makeup, a dowdy [denim] outfit and her hair pulled up in a ponytail. She doesn't need to compete with Kate, because she will always be Queen Bee."
